Thanx for sharing such treasured information Dustin. Its so true that waking through a vintage gallery can offer you a portal back in time. Creating such vintage effects via lenses is a work of skill and art. I am really very keen to try out the Soviet era Helios to get that perfectly imperfect effect for my photographs.

thanx for sharing the valuable piece of information.. its right the wierd vintage photographs are always amazing to have. They give some what a very nostalgic and magical touch to our otherwise perfect DSLR snaps. The Alien Skin Exposure seems to be quite an useful tool for photographers who click to add to their vintage collectibles… will surely use it!!

Imperfections introduced to an mage, by design or providence, mirror the imperfections in our memory. It is the nature of memory to lose some detail and fade a bit with time. As time passes, a photograph that mimics such characteristics allows our memory some space to fill out the missing details with our own interpretation of the missing details, however accurate or inaccurate we desire. Such photography, created with silver or silicon, is truly analog in its relationship to how our memories work and how we wish to remember our lives as we move through them.

In reply to Jerry Cagle. Jerry--did a little plinking around to find said adapter. I can find one for Canon lenses, but nothing else. I assume there is a solution out there, but it may not be available just yet. You may have better luck contacting someone at a local camera store to help with your search.

GREAT article, Dustin. I especially like the shot that the Helios yielded. I’m definitely interested in that lens, but, even after a search, am not certain if there is an adapter for that lens that would work with my Sony a7R. Can you help me with that little detail?
