Exposure X3 is coming out this fall. There are lots of new features coming in the next version. We expanded the local adjustment functionality in Exposure with several new gradient masking tools. They enable you to make seamless, natural fades between effects. Adding linear and gradient tools has been a highly-requested feature, so we’re happy to bring it to you.
In the video at the top of this article, we show how the gradient tools work, in addition to demonstrating how to make local adjustments with Exposure’s brushing tool. We recently released a video about making local adjustments, which we updated for the new tools coming in Exposure X3. If you want to apply editing tweaks to selective areas of your images, use local adjustments for an extra level of creative control. Exposure makes the process simple, enabling you to easily transition into more advanced editing.

I hope the new version will have a ‘Check for Updates’ feature built-in. I don’t see why all software shouldn’t already have this feature!???
Exposure X3 will have a check updates feature. It will let you know when there’s a new version and offer to launch the installation process.
I’ve been using this over the last couple of weeks and got an extension after having to be away for a week. This software is a definite winner and worth the money. I’ll be getting the latest version for sure.

Is there a way to print directly out of exposure like i can with lr?
Not at this time, Gerald. It’s on our roadmap for a future release.

Where the dehaze slider?
Hi Paul – Thanks for commenting. There isn’t a Dehze control in Exposure X3, but it’s on our roadmap to add in a future version.
Frustrated with LR as well as ON1 Photo RAW, I’m intrigued by X3, which seems to tick all the right boxes.
One question though: Does the masking tool offer edge-aware “auto”/”magic” (or whatever it’s called) masking that automatically keeps the mask within the object?
I’d think it’s trivial by today’s standards (and indeed featured in most or all competing products), but I was surprised to see that it’s missing from X3, at least from what’s shown in the video here.
If not in X3 already, do you plan on adding it in a point update?

Thanks for commenting! No, Exposure X3 does not offer an edge-aware masking feature. It is something we would like to include in a future version, though. I’ll make sure the design team hears your request for it.
I assumed the masking WAS edge-aware! That’s definitely worth having. I’ve been evaluating and comparing LR, X2, onOne, Luminar, Topaz Studio, and a couple of others. So far X2 is the only one that might tempt me to change (at least part of) my workflow from LR. It’s fast, it’s easy to use, it’s clean, and I love all the film effects. Printing and applying watermarks is missing, but I’m hoping that will come soon. All in all I think it’s a great product.

Exposure X3 does have a watermarking feature, which enables you to automatically apply watermarks during the image export process. Take a look at our Export Watermarks tutorial to see how it works.
Guys – X3 is awesome. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love the new capabilities with filters. Seems faster to me. I’ve been using exposure for a while but LR had some features that kept me from leaving it behind. X3 does all the essentials now and will be my full time editor. Thanks a ton. X3 rocks.

I bought version x3. If I can, I would like to add a few requests / questions :)
I would like to move all my work completely from LR to EX3, but I am missing some functionality from LR. As some of my predecessors have already written – edge-aware brushes. I miss also the option “auto” in Basic tab. It’s really do job. Second is Color tab. Is the way to control in EX3 also hue and luminance for colors?

Just downloaded the trial version of X3 and started using. I really love it. Want to switch from Lightroom since it’s subscription only now. I’m wondering what the average cost is for updates each year, after purchasing. I want to compare to Lightroom, which is $120 a year.
