We’re working on a big update to Exposure X4 and it will be ready next month. The Exposure X4.5 update brings exciting new enhancements that improve your workflow and creativity. This update is free for all owners of Exposure X4. Watch the video above to see a quick preview of the following new enhancements:
Look-Up Table (LUT) Support
In the Exposure X4.5 update, you’ll be able to import LUTs from the Internet and from other apps to achieve striking looks with coloring and tone curves. It’s a great way to create a unique, cinematic look.
Copy Photos from Card
A new visual approach to copying photos from source to destination folder in Exposure X4.5 gives you visual previews of all your images and enhanced metadata options, making the process faster and easier.
Configurable Keyboard Shortcuts
Setting your own keyboard shortcuts will further speed up your workflow, and a new Lightroom keyboard shortcut will help you if you are migrating from Lightroom to Exposure.
New Overlays
Enhance your creativity with new lens flare and haze overlays that are freely moveable.
And More
Additional enhancements include expanded lens and camera support, as well as the ability to see all the collections your image belongs to.
If you haven’t tried Exposure, now is the perfect time to do so. When you purchase, you’ll get the Exposure X4.5 update free when it is available.
Still one of the best photo editing apps out there.
Just miss a cleaner more modern look of the UI so far and the possibility to add the master folder from within Apple Photos library (show package content). It is already possible to do this but after next app launch Exposure X4 hangs with black and blank UI parts…
Looking forward to upcoming updates!
Best regatds,
Michel
Hi Michael – Thanks for commenting. The best option is to change to a referenced location rather than a library if you want to use Apple Photos and Exposure. Here is a helpful tutorial that shows you how to do that.
Hi, it would be highly appreciated if Exposure X4 would support two of the most widespread Canon Lenses out there, the Kit-Lens EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and the cheap wide angel lens EF-S 10-18mm f/4-5.6 IS STM! Many thanks in advance! Best regards, Martin
Thanks for commenting, Martin. We could use images taken using the lenses you mentioned for testing and evaluation. Would you be willing to share some with us? Please fill out a support ticket and we’ll give you more information about what we’re looking for.
I would also like to make a wish: RAW cover (DNG) for a cult Pentax compact digital camera namely the beautiful MX-1, PLEASE!
I have tried out and purchased several RAW dev soft over the years, and can easily claim that Exposure comes on top. Flawless, intuitive, no bug, very versatile, and most importantly: rich, natural colours, AT LAST ; )
Thanks for commenting, Daniel. We’re always developing support for new camera and lens models. One of the first things we need to build support for a new camera or lens are images taken with them. Would you be willing to share some Pentax MX-1 photos with us for testing and evaluation? Please fill out a support ticket and we’ll give you more information about what we’re looking for.
I’ve stopped using lightroom entirely and have been using X4 exclusively – it’s great and the updates are bringing it up to and surpassing lightroom.
Keep up the good work everyone.
That’s great to hear, Sean! Thanks for sharing.
Very excited about the update. Having LUT support is huge for me. Something still on my wishlist is support for ICC colour profiles. Don’t use it everyday but it is very helpful when dealing with product photography and trying to keep things looking consistent.
Thanks for the great software and solid support.
Thanks for commenting, Mike. Glad to hear that LUT support is something you’re interested in. ICC profiles is on our list of features we’d like to get into Exposure. I’ll make a note for the development team about your interest in that.
Hello,
I was told the Sony RX100VA would be supported in this update. It appears not? Do you have any idea when it will be available? The M6 is now supported so I thought the M5A would be too? I’m using a DNG conversion work around at the moment but it is becoming laborious.
Many thanks
Miles
Thanks for commenting, Miles. Exposure supports the RX100V but not specifically the RX100VA, not yet. The team are always developing support for new camera and lens models. We don’t have a completion date set for this model, but the team are actively working on it.
Miles, just to make sure I understood you correctly. By M5A, you’re referring to the Sony RX100VA, and by M6, you’re meaning the Sony RX100VI, right?
Happy to hear about configurable keystrokes, and better import flow.
My wishlist includes
HEIC support so I can keep all my photos in one place.
Support for videos. Not editing, just DAM functionality, so I can keep my vacation videos and pics in the same place, tag them, etc.
Better visual indication of which adjustment panels have adjustments applied. I can’t believe this one is still a problem. And hovering over the layer thumbnail is not a good substitute.
Having a native UI, rather than whatever api they used (Maybe QT or something?) is on my list too, but let’s face it, probably not going to happen any time soon. I love Exposure’s functionality, and it’s my DAM/Editor of choice, but the UI is frankly a little clunky and a lot ugly.
Thanks for commenting, Cedar. HEIC support, and video preview support are already on our list for future versions of Exposure, but they are not expected this update. I will pass your suggestions about Exposure’s UI over to the design team.
hi… will X4.5 have support for CR3, the format for the now 6+month old Canon EOS R?
Not for this release, no. We are actively working on support for the new EOS-R raw format, but it’s not ready yet.
Hi, I am post-LR user, and a few months ago I switch to Exposure X4. It’s a handy and well-performing tool. Now, most of my pictures I process using your application. New features which you are going to introduce seems to be useful.
Nevertheless, I miss some features (essential when for LR post-user):
– Better support for Lossy DNG files. Now I can open them in Exposure but application process them very slowly, dynamic range and overall quality of an image is awful. I’ve got a big archive of my casual photos converted to this format, and I couldn’t use them in your software.
– correction of chromatic aberration and defringe tool – My lens, especially wide open is not perfect, and this optical defect is visible
– better noise reduction & sharpening tools – now I found they are useless for high ISO images because they degrade images much more than tools from other apps (e.g. LR or Capture One)
The last one is the lack of luminosity range tool. It is available in LR CC and other like Capture One. It helps much create beautiful pictures and control image in selected areas. Now to do this correction I need to move to other apps.
I would like if you have some items in your backlog to cover them? If so, when we can expect them.
Thx.
Thanks for the suggestions, Dariusz. We already have plans for most of the things you mentioned. They are on our list of features we are considering for future versions of Exposure. They are not going to make it into Exposure X4.5.
We could use your help with improving support of lossy DNG files. One of the first things we need are images to test with. Would you be willing to share some lossy DNG photos with us for testing and evaluation? If so, here is a link to open a support ticket about it.
Hi, you have been saying chromatic aberration is on your list since at least last summer, almost a year if not more. I would think you have an idea now of when that will come? will it be in X5 and if so when is that?
also will you ever have an auto-straighten feature that crops and straightens like lightroom?
Thanks.
Thanks for your continued interest in Chromatic Aberration correction, Steve. We are working on that feature now, but it’s still not quite ready to make its debut. We will certianly bang the drums about it as loud and as often as we can when it is ready.
We’ve heard a few requests for an auto-straighten feature before. That seems like it could be a handy tool for the right workflow. I’ll add a note about your interest in our logs.
Please keep us updated about CA correction. I am currently looking for a DAM with integrated RAW developer and it looks like X4 is exactly what I’m looking for. Unfortunately, CA correction is an essential feature for me and I will hold off until you can integrate it. Great work otherwise!
By the way: does X4 feature automatic vignette correction?
Thanks for commenting, Ben. The first place we usually share information about new features is here on the blog, so you’re in the right place. Chromatic Aberration correction is definitely on our list of features we plan to add in a future version of Exposure. I’ll make a few notes about your interest in that feature in our logs.
Exposure does not have have automatic lens vignette correction. We’re looking into it though.
Exposure is an amazing editor, but the two things still stopping me from working end-to-end in RAW is the quality of the app’s sharpening and the render speed when working in 1:1 view.
Thanks for commenting, Iain. I’d like to hear more about what you’re experiencing with Exposure. We usually hear praise about the quality of Exposure’s sharpening, and about its speed. I’ve sent you an email about it.
I have just moved from LR to exposure and one of the features I miss from LR is the radial filter. Any plans to add this in the future? Otherwise it’s been any easy transition and I love the way it handles Fuji RAF files.
Thanks for commenting, Doug! Exposure’s gradient tool enables you to make seamless, natural fades between effects. Exposure’s radial shape gradient is similar to Lightroom’s radial filter. Here is a link to our Local Adjustments video. It demonstrates how to use the gradient tools in Exposure.
I’m a registered owner of Exposure X4 in Australia and I haven’t been emailed a link to the 4.5 update. Is there a link where registered users can download? Thanks!
We’re happy to help you with that, Steve. Let’s get you in contact with our support team. Here’s a link to open a ticket.
Jimmy: I am a laggard still on Aperture & use with Silver Efex Pro2 for B&W and a Fuji user. Looking at Exposure4, do you have any experience from both or either of what I am using or opinions of the UI experience comparison? Thank you in advance! Dan
Hi Dan — Thanks for commenting. Aperture and Exposure work a little bit differently, so I recommend watching a few of our tutorial videos to get familiar with it. Here is a link. Silver Efex Pro 2 can be used as an external editor in Exposure, so you can access that via Edit Copy In > Silver Efex just like with Aperture. That portion of your workflow will remain very much the same.
I bought X3 already in 2017 but I stopped using it after a short while, because of too many features from LR were missing. So I sticked with LR and I even switch to the hated LR CC model.
I have now tested X4 V4.5 for a few days and I must admit you are catching up nice&quickly.
But there is still one major feature missing, which I use a lot in LR and thats AUTO-DEVELOPMENT.
I need that starting point although it sometimes misses the point. But for >80% of the day to day shots it fits. And that saves a lot of time.
Although X4 has amazing filters/presets, I really would appreciate that feature in X4.
PLEASE consider it for the next release!
Hi Guido – thanks for commenting. Automatic adjustment tools like exposure or white balance are something we have on our priority list. We don’t have a date when you can see them in Exposure, but we will make notes for the design team about your interest.
Will exposure x5 support raw file formats for canon eos r camera?
Thanks for commenting, Gary. We are actively working on adding support for the EOS-R, but we don’t have a date for when it will be ready.
